BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE CAMPUS
The design and construction of the aforementioned
facilities follow Hong Kong BEAM gold standard for green
buildings, as a minimum. The University held Asia’s first
carbon-neutral, zero waste University congregation in
November 2010 based on British Standards Institution’s
PAS 2060 protocol. The pioneering move was in line
with HKUST’s longstanding commitment and leadership
on environmental and sustainability issues. In addition
to regularly held garage sales, large-scale recycling
campaigns during dormitory move-out periods were
organized by student green activists and supported by the
campus community.
Environment Week featured programs on shark
protection, carbon trading, green fashion, and a green
challenge poster competition. Several innovative green
practices presented in the posters were adopted. Diving
activities were also held to promote coastal protection
and preservation of marine ecology. The Living Learning
Community green living program in Hall VII was so well
received that it will expand to cover Hall VI.
The University started establishing the HKUST Eco-Park in
Tseung Kwan O. This will facilitate field demonstrations
and research on medicinal plants, renewable energy, green
slopes and organic farming.
HKUST SHENZHEN IER BUILDING
In January 2011, the completion of the HKUST Shenzhen
Industry, Education and Research (IER) Building marked
another milestone in the University’s development in
Shenzhen. The 15,000 sq m facility is being fitted out

企業資源策劃系統
為配合
2012

大認為有需要大大提升其行政制度及服務,因
此推出了大型資訊系統項目,及執行一整套企

支援、財政運作及人力資源等行政功能。經過
兩年的努力,第一期學生資訊系統於

a platform to facilitate the University’s activities and
development on the Mainland.
ENTERPRISE RESOURCES PLANNING
The move to the four-year degree system in 2012
has meant immense administrative changes need
to be undertaken. These include handling a new
admission system, additional recruitment of faculty,
and two curricula co-existing for at least three years.
As a result, the University foresaw its administrative
systems and services would need to undergo substantial
enhancement and modifications. A major information
systems project was therefore launched to implement a
suite of Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) application
systems, encompassing student and academic support,
finance, and human resources. Following two years’
dedicated effort, Phase One of the student information
systems successfully went live in April 2011. The financial
management system and human resources management
systems followed in August 2011. The roll-out of the
three systems was another critical step forward in the
University’s preparations for 3-3-4, and its information
systems and IT development. To leverage the benefits of
the new information systems structure, the University
plans to develop database and other enhancement
features of administrative systems in phases.
