KUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School (FYTGS), located in Nansha, Guangzhou, is an important platform
on the Mainland, assisting the University to fulfill its mission in technology innovation and advancement
in the region and thereby contributing to the upgrading of industry as well as postgraduate education and
the nurture of talents.
FYTGS seeks to do so through carrying out research, providing postgraduate education, and fostering
technology transfer and commercialization. The School enables HKUST faculty and students to participate
in Mainland research schemes, including the prestigious 973, 863 and National Natural Science Foundation
of China (NSFC) programs, as well as State Key Laboratory and National Key Projects, giving faculty and
students the opportunity to collaborate with Mainland counterparts and industry. To this end, the School
has secured 20 more projects during 2010-2011 to add to its contributions and achievements during the
past years.
Since its establishment in 2007, the School has focused on four technology areas – Internet of Things,
Advanced Manufacturing and Automation, Advanced Engineering Materials, and Environment and
Sustainable Development.
A notable project, awarded by the Guangdong Science and Technology Department, harnesses the
multidisciplinary research capabilities of FYTGS to solve common but key technology issues in sensor-based
network monitoring, remote healthcare monitoring, high-precision yet energy-saving controllers for injection
molding machines, and innovative battery management system for electric vehicles.
The School also collaborates with leading institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences. One such
project with the prestigious academy is focused on communications technologies, including advanced 4G
mobile broadband, mobile internet, wireless, short range broadband, ubiquitous network and Internet
of Things. Advancements in these technologies are expected to have a significant impact on future
communications.
In addition, the School makes scientific contributions, especially to the study of air quality in Hong Kong and
the Pearl River Delta region and the effects of changes in the oceans to our environment and sustainable
development. In the former, the School combines experimental observation with model analysis to help
formulate scientifically backed air pollution control measures and policies, for improving air quality in the
region. This research has received multiple support, both in Hong Kong and from the NSFC.
FYTGS’ active research and collaboration with industry provides an enviable backdrop for its MPhil students
who not only have access to HKUST’s academic excellence but through the FYTGS platform have a significant
opportunity to work directly on research projects with industry. This academic-industry combination and
interdisciplinary education makes the FYTGS program unique. A state-of-the-art, 25,000 sq m facility in
Nansha is also underway.
With Nansha’s importance reaffirmed in the recently released 12th Five-Year Plan, more exciting times lie
ahead, with the School witnessing increased activities during the year among Pearl River Delta authorities
from the Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau as they seek to advance the plan’s vision.

學院憑著卓越的跨學科研究,取得廣東省科學技術廳研究項
目,協助解決多個常見的關鍵性技術問題,包括傳感器網絡
監控系統、遠程健康監護系統、高精度節能注塑機控制器,
以及創新的電動車電池管理系統。
學院亦與多間著名學術機構合作,其中一個與中國科學院合
作的項目以通訊技術為主,涵蓋先進的

流動寬頻、流動互
聯網、無線、短距寬頻、無所不在的網絡以及物聯網,對未
來的通訊發展有重大意義。
學院並對科學研究作出重要貢獻,包括香港及珠江三角地區
的空氣質素研究,以及海洋變化對環境及可持續發展影響之
研究。學院為了進行港珠三角空氣質素研究,特別結合實驗
觀察及模型分析,幫助制訂有科學基礎的空氣污染監察措施
及政策,以改善區域空氣質素,研究獲得香港及國家自然科
學基金委員會等各方支持。
學院積極進行研究工作及與業界緊密合作,碩士學生不但因
為科大卓越的學術成就而受惠,更可直接參與業界的研究項
目。課程採用學術界與業界的合作模式,配合跨學科的教育
方針,別具特色。目前,學院正在南沙興建佔地
25,000
平方
米的先進教學設施。
隨著「十二五」規劃重申南沙的重要地位,內地、香港及澳門
政府正致力實現計劃;學院在珠三角的活動將更為頻密。
