he School of Engineering continues to excel on a world scale and strives
to make the most of its leadership position to create global impact
through its outstanding research and innovations. To push forward its level
of excellence, the School adopts an interdisciplinary and theme-based
approach in research to find transformational solutions to grand challenges.
The School also seeks to attract the top quality faculty and students from
around the world to further drive its education and research mission.
The School continues to receive global recognition as a world-class institution
with its strong showings in numerous international rankings. In the
Times Higher
Education World University Rankings 2010
, HKUST was ranked 20th in engineering
and technology. In the
QS World University Rankings 2010
, the University was ranked
26th in engineering and technology.
According to the 2011
QS World University Rankings
by Subject — Engineering
and Technology, HKUST was ranked first in Greater China in Computer Science
and Information Systems (26th worldwide), and first in Hong Kong in Mechanical,
Aeronautical and Manufacturing (44th worldwide). Other strong HKUST subject
rankings included 28th in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and 42nd in Civil and
Structural Engineering.
