Strengthening Strategic Focus
The Univer sit y ’s Mainland China plat forms in
Guangzhou, Foshan, Xi’an, Shenzhen and Hangzhou
were effectively streamlined over the year to enable
greater synergy and to facilitate faculty members’
contributions. Fok Ying Tung Research Institute in
Guangzhou is now positioned as a headquarters for
knowledge transfer for the University. HKUST-LED-
FPD Technology R&D Center at Foshan will focus on
its unique strength in light-emitting diode research
The University has further integrated its Mainland platforms and built
up links with national enterprises while raising its global presence by
forging partnerships and participation in premier international forums

and development. The Joint School of Sustainable
Development (JSSD) in Xi’an will build sustainability.
Shenzhen PKU-HKUST Medical Center will emphasize
on basic biomedical research, teaching and training,
and the HKUST Zhejiang Advanced Manufacturing
Institute in Hangzhou will address advanced design and
manufacturing needs.
