Prof Shihe Yang, Department of Chemistry, and
researchers from Beijing University of Aeronautics
and Astronautics and Peking University were awarded
a State Natural Science Award, Second Class, for
developing methodologies for synthesizing transition
metal-based monodispersed nanomaterials.
Faculty members and students have received numerous honors and accolades over the year.

PRC for the second consecutive year for
pioneering work on direct alcohol fuel cells.
Prof Charles Ng, Department of Civil and
Environmental Engineering, received a
Higher Education Outstanding Scientific
Research Output Award (Science and
Technology), First Class in Scientific
and Technological Progress, from the
Ministry of Education for “Theory and
Key Technology of the Stability and
Deformation Control during the Whole
Process of Large and Deep Excavation in
Coastal Area”. Prof Ng also received the
2013 Prix R M Quigley Award from the
National Research Council Canada.
Dr Tian Fang, Department of Computer
Science and Engineering, received a
Higher Education Outstanding Scientific
Research Output Award (Science and
Technology), Second Class in Natural
Science, for “Theories and Methods of
Earth Surface Feature Modeling and
Visualization Based on Multi-Sensor
Spatial Data”.
