LEADING THE WAY TO EXCELLENCE
In September 2013, President Tony F Chan was
reappointed to the leadership of the University for a
second five-year term. He will serve as President until
2019. President Chan has steered HKUST ahead in the
key areas of development set out in the Strategic Plan
2011-16, and successfully overseen a smooth transition
to the four-year degree system. During the year,
President Chan was elected to the National Academy
of Engineering in the United States, among the highest
professional recognitions in the field.
Faculty recruitment continued to support new areas of scholarship while professional
development evolved further, teaching and research achievements were recognized
FACULTY DEVELOPMENT
In May 2014, Prof Jitendra V Singh was announced
as the new Dean of Business and Management,
effective September 2014. Prof Singh, a world-
class management scholar and business educator,
joins HKUST from the Wharton School, University of
Pennsylvania, where he was Saul P Steinberg Professor
of Management. Prof Jingshen Wu (Mechanical and
Aerospace Engineering) was appointed the Founding
Dean of Xi’an Jiaotong University-HKUST Joint School
of Sustainable Development.
