The University has been quite adept at developing roadmaps for future development, as evidenced by :
在新藥物開發、藥物釋出、配藥生產、醫療診斷和成像,以至生物醫學設備方面,進行了跨學科的研究及
應用研究,以加強香港生物科技行業的發展。科大現正就不同的疾病及症狀,包括神經病學、癌症及年老
等問題,識別新藥物的使用者。
Multidisciplinary research and applied research into drug discovery, drug delivery, pharmaceutical
production, medical diagnostics and imaging, and biomedical devices to stimulate a strong biotechnology
sector in Hong Kong. HKUST is currently engaged in identifying new drug candidates for a variety of
diseases and conditions including neuropathologies, cancer and aging.

Interdisciplinary environmental
research and large-scale projects
with mainland research partners to
meet the needs of Hong Kong and
the Pearl River Delta region. The extension of environmental education to
students and training for the public and private sectors are also targeted.

The continuation of pioneering basic
research into the size of carbon
nanotubes and the critical temperature
for superconductivity in carbon-based
materials. Planned applications include
the design and fabrication of a nano-
particle-based system for pathogen
detection and the development of a
nano tool-kit for biomedical research,
among others. New postgraduate and
undergraduate degree programs in
nanoscience and technology are being
i n c u b a t e d a n d w i l l s o o n b e
established.
These disciplines have been carefully selected for their scientific
significance and relevancy to the social and economic development
goals of Hong Kong, the Pearl River Delta region and beyond. HKUST
is already internationally recognized for our ground-breaking research
in these areas. We are making further inroads through new discoveries
and by working alongside other institutions and industries for their
innovative industrial and social applications.
Such research and development often call for a multidisciplinary
approach. HKUST, with a broad range of expertise across our four
Schools in science, engineering, business and management, and
humanities and social science, is especially suited to the task.

The development of revolutionary
wireless technologies to support
cognitive ubiquitous communications; high-speed networks to retain
Hong Kong’s position as a major information hub; wireless and mobile
computing for information mobility; multimedia information systems;
and user-friendly interfaces for multilingual usage.
這些範疇都是按科學領域的重要性,以及根據香
港、珠江三角洲以至其他地區的社會與經濟發展
所需,細心挑選出來。科大在這些領域的開拓研
究,已經獲得國際認同。透過嶄新發明,以及與
其他機構和行業的合作,科大利用這些創新的工
業與社會應用技術,不斷拓展本身的研究。
這類研究與發展,需要採用跨學科的治學方法。
由於科大的理學、工學、工商管理學、人文社會
科學這四個學院,匯集了廣泛的專業知識,因而
對跨學科的研究,可盡展所長。
