Times Higher Education Supplement
ranked the University
57th in social science among the world’s top 100 Universities.
•
Dr Pun Ngai, Associate Professor of Social Science, was the winner
of the 2005 C. Wright Mills Award. She is the first Asian winner of
this prestigious award since its establishment in 1964. Dr Pun’s
award-winning book, titled “Made in China: Women Factory Workers
in a Global Workplace”, critically addresses an issue of contemporary
public importance and brings to the topic a fresh, imaginative
perspective.
•
Professor X L Ding of the Division of Social Science was appointed
by the Washington DC-based Carnegie Endowment for International
Peace (CEIP) as its academic representative to China. The two
main areas of the CEIP’s joint program in China are US-China
relations and the challenges for sustainable development in China.
Professor Ding is the first-ever Chinese scholar appointed to this
key post.

Professor Xiaogang Wu was awarded a prestigious Spencer
Postdoctoral Fellowship, won the Best Paper Award from the
American Sociological Association’s Asian and Asian American
Section, and received an RGC grant for Public Policy research.

尖學府的社會科學排名中,位列第57位。

社會科學部副教授潘毅博士,榮獲2005 年
度C. Wright Mills獎項。這個崇高獎項自
1964年創立以來,潘博士為首位亞裔得獎學
者。她的得獎作品《中國製造:全球化工廠下
的女工》,精闢地剖析這個重要的公共政策問
題,並從嶄新的角度,找出問題的關鍵。

社會科學部教授丁學良,獲美國卡內基國際
和平基金會,委任為在華合作項目代表。卡
內基在中國將進行兩項主要研究,分別是美
中關係,以及中國在可持續性發展所面對的
挑戰。丁教授是首位獲此殊榮的華人學者。
•
吳曉剛教授獲選為史賓沙博士後研究員、也
獲美國社會學學會(American Sociological
Association)的 Asian and Asian American
Section頒發最佳論文獎,以及獲香港研究資
助局撥款,作公共政策研究。
