(AACSB International), the premier accrediting agency
for business degree programs. The School first earned
this international recognition in 1999. Less than 5%
of business programs around the world have been
accredited today.
The School’s education programs continued to be
highly rated in international surveys. The HKUST MBA
program was ranked No.1 in Asia by the
Financial Times
Global MBA Rankings 2014 for the fifth consecutive
year while the Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA (EMBA)
program was ranked No.1 in the world by the
Financial
Times
Global EMBA Rankings 2013, also for the fifth
straight year.
In research, the School has been ranked top in Asia
Pacific between 2010 and 2014 by the University of
Texas at Dallas Top 100 World Ranking of Business
Schools, based on research contribution. A donation
from the Tongyi Industrial Group will see the School
further advance its research, boosting the development
of the Center for Electronic Commerce and studies on
business conducted over electronic platforms.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students enjoyed
on-going success in numerous international business
contests, including the Scotiabank International Case
Competition in Canada, Columbia’s Global MBA
Competition in the United States, and Corporate Social
Responsibility Case Competition in Hong Kong.
GROOMING RESPONSIBLE LEADERS
With corporate social responsibility an integral part
of business education today, the School put more
emphasis on business ethics and service learning
in its formal curriculum, enrichment activities and
research. Undergraduate courses incorporated
more on business ethics, social responsibility and
sustainable development. At the postgraduate level,
these elements have been integrated into courses and
curricula according to the focus of different programs.
In addition, faculty members have stepped up efforts
to develop research, teaching materials and case
studies on corporate social responsibility and corporate
governance, with a focus on Asian markets.
An innovative credit-bearing elective was launched
on Social Entrepreneurship and Venture Philanthropy,
with the support of Yeh Family Philanthropy. The
course, open to undergraduates and postgraduates
across the School, gives students a real-life platform
to learning how to contribute their ideas and skills
to sustainable social businesses and make socially
responsible investment.
HOMECOMING CELEBRATION
In December 2013, the School organized its first
homecoming day for alumni, faculty, staff and students
in the Lee Shau Kee Business Building. The 300 guests,
including the School’s Founding Dean and alumni from
the first graduating class, reconnected with their peers
and toured the teaching facilities. To stay connected
with the expanding alumni network, the School
continued to hold annual reunion activities in Hong
Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Singapore and
introduced more social media networking channels to
engage the diverse School community.
