In 2009-10:
•
TTC evaluated 89 invention disclosures from HKUST
researchers.
•
TTC arranged for the filing of 137 patent applications
worldwide, including full and provisional applications
with the US Patent Office and Trademark Office.
•
HKUST received notification of the granting of 27
patents.
•
RDC signed 142 R&D contracts with industrial and
public sector clients, worth more than $93 million.
•
RDC licensed five patents, 130 assignments and two
software.
•
RDC continued to incubate seven start-up companies
based on expertise and technology developed at
HKUST.
Research Funding
•
Three collaborative projects led by HKUST were
awarded a Collaborative Research Grant by the
Hong Kong Research Grant Council in 2009-10.
A project entitled Study of Microglia and Acute
Myeloid Leukemia in Zebrafish, with Dr Zilong Wen
of the Department of Biochemistry as the principal
investigator, was awarded a HK$4.6 million. Another
project entitled Quantum Order in Novel Materials:
Superconductivity and Topological Order, with Prof
Tai-Kai Ng of the Department of Physics as the
principal investigator, was awarded over HK$10
million. A project entitled Green Slope Engineering
for Hong Kong, with Prof Charles Ng of the
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
as the principal investigator, was awarded HK$ 6.67
million.
•
Prof Hoi-Sing Kwok, Department of Electronics and
Computer Engineering, was the lead scientist for a
project on Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode
Displays which was sponsored by the 863 Program
of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China
and was awarded a grant of HK$1.066 million.
•
P ro f Zong j i n L i , Depa r tmen t o f C i v i l and
Environmental Engineering, was the lead scientist for
a project on Environmentally Friendly Contemporary
Concrete which was sponsored by the 973 Program
of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China
and was awarded a grant of HK$ 3 million.
•
Prof Lionel M Ni, Department of Computer Science
and Engineering, was the chief scientist for a project
on Fundamental Theory and Key Technologies of
Wireless Sensor Networks which was sponsored
by the 973 Program of the Ministry of Science and
Technology of China. He also led another project on
Reconfigurable Router Platform which was sponsored
by the 863 Program.
•
Prof Yunhao Liu, Department of Computer Science
and Engineering, obtained HK$5.676 million
from industry and the Hong Kong R&D Centre for
Logistics and Supply Chain Management Enabling
Technologies Ltd to work on a project entitled “Trust
Solution for RFID Enabled Interoperable e-Logistics”.
•
Prof Gary Chan, Department of Computer Science
and Engineering, obtained an ITF grant of HK$7.562
million from the Innovation and Technology
Commission and various industrial enterprises to
work on the project entitled “LAviNet: A Lean
Wireless Infrastructure Network for the Aviation
MRO Industry”.
•
Prof Xiaogang Wu, Division of Social Science, has
received a Strategic Public Policy Research grant of
$3.96 million from the Research Grants Council to
launch a major data collection project entitled “Hong
Kong Panel Study of Social Dynamics (HK-PSSD)”.
In the RGC General Research Fund program announced
on 30 June 2010, HKUST researchers were awarded
$88 million. In this annual internationally peer-reviewed
competition, HKUST can claim:
•
The highest success rate (41%)
•
The highest funding per eligible faculty ($199,000)
•
The highest participation rate (26.6% of eligible
faculty were funded)
•
化學系任能博教授創立的新公司R&C Biogenius Ltd
於2009年提交了—項專利申請，名為「利用脂質運
載蛋白2作為心臟及中風風險的預測及診斷標誌物」
（WO/2009/132510）。他成立的另一家新公司DNA
SuperNova Limited，現時正與美國默克公司合作開
發空腸弧菌快速測試技術，這種細菌是很多發達國
家細菌性食源性疾病的主因。他還與深圳康生保生
物技術有限公司聯手開發獲歐盟CE及國家食品藥品
監督管理局批准的CardioCare hs-CRP ELISA、獲
CE認證的 InfectCheck CRP ELISA及獲CE認證的
InfectCheck NeoPT快速測試技術。此外，他與日本
GC Corporation合作開發唾液遠緣鏈球菌快速測試
技術，此技術可用於預測患齲齒的風險。
•
由廖家俊教授、崔志英教授及鄭樹坤教授於1999年創
立的幻音數碼，於2009年12月在創業板上市，集資額
約為1億港元。
2009-10年內：
•
技術轉移中心為科大研究人員評估89項發明成果。
•
技術轉移中心安排申請世界各地137項專利，包括向美
國專利及商標局提出全面及臨時申請。
•
科大獲得27項專利權。
•
科大研究開發有限公司與工業界及公營部門客戶，簽
訂142份研發合約，總值超過9,300萬港元。
•
科大研究開發有限公司授出5項專利、130項專利授權
及2款軟件。
•
科大研究開發有限公司以科大開發的專業知識及技
術，繼續培育發展7家新公司。
研究資助
•
於2009-10年，香港研資局頒發協作研究金，資助三
個由科大領導的合作項目。名為「斑馬魚小膠質細胞和
急性髓系白血病的研究」的項目獲撥款460萬港元，其
首席研究員為生物化學系溫子龍博士。另一項名為「新
型材料中的量子序：超導體和拓樸絕緣體」的項目更獲
撥款逾1,000萬港元，由物理學系吳大琪教授擔任首席
研究員。「香港斜坡生態工程」項目則獲撥款667萬港
元，首席研究員為土木及環境工程學系吳宏偉教授。
•
電子及計算機工程學系郭海成教授於一項有源矩陣有
機發光二極管顯示器的研究項目中出任首席科學家，
該項目由國家科技部863計劃資助，資助額為106.6萬
港元。
•
土木及環境工程學系李宗津教授於一項當代環境友好
型混凝土的研究項目中出任首席科學家，該項目由國
家科技部973計劃資助，資助額為300萬港元。
•
計算機科學及工程學系倪明選教授於一項無線傳感器
網絡的基礎理論及關鍵技術研究項目中出任首席科學
家，該項目由國家科技部973計劃資助。他亦帶領另一
項由863計劃資助，研究可重構路由交換通用平台研製
的項目。
•
計算機科學及工程學系劉雲浩教授獲業界及香港物流
及供應鏈管理應用技術研發中心撥款567.6萬港元，進
行一項名為「支援基於射頻識別技術的電子物流網絡互
聯互通之可信解決方案」的研究。
•
計算機科學及工程學系陳雙幸教授獲創新科技署 - 創新
及科技基金及業界企業撥款756.2萬港元，進行一項名
為「LAviNet：一個簡捷的航空維護維修無線網絡基礎
設施」的研究。
•
社會科學部吳曉剛教授獲研資局公共政策研究資助計
劃撥款396萬港元，開展一項名為「香港社會動態追蹤
調查」的大型數據搜集項目。
研資局在2010年6月30日宣布優配研究基金計劃結果，
科大的研究人員獲撥款8,800萬港元。這次是由海外專家
評審的年度角逐籌款，科大：
•
成功率最高（41%）
•
合資格教學人員個人撥款最高（19.9萬港元）
•
參與率最高（合資格教學人員中有26.6%獲資助）
