高
等研究院（高研院）是科大2005-2020年的策略發展
計劃的重點，以匯聚全球精英、推動科技發展、開拓
尖端科技與學術新領域為宗旨，迎接二十一世紀的挑戰。
高研院的目標是成為亞洲以至全球性首屈一指的知識中
心，為香港及大中華地區的創新與科技發展提供平台。高
研院自2006年6月成立以來，已舉辦120次活動；由科
大舉辦的79場傑出學人講座中，有14場由諾貝爾獎得主
主講。
高研院成功獲得政府種子基金及基建資金的撥款，並在香
港賽馬會的鼎力支持下，成功籌集所需資金。此外，盧家
驄慈善基金、榮智健博士、蘇海文博士及蘇包陪慶教授、
趙氏廷箴懷芳基金會、思源基金會、東亞銀行有限公司、
田家炳基金會及俄羅斯鋁業（俄鋁）亦慷慨捐助。
高研院在重點研究領域展開跨學科及跨學院的合作。除去
年年報列出的九名知名學者展開合作外，今年更增加四名
知名學者，合作成立聯合實驗室及研究隊伍。這些研究人
員包括加州大學柏克萊分校的Marvin Cohen教授、普林斯
頓高研院的埃里克．馬斯金教授、密歇根大學盛宗亮教授
及加州大學柏克萊分校的Pravin Varaiya教授。

s a major initiative of the University’s 2005-2020
Strategic Plan, the Institute for Advanced Study
(IAS) is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge to
meet the great challenges of the 21
st
century. The IAS
aims to bring together the most brilliant minds to drive
cutting-edge discovery and scholarship.
The goal of the IAS is to establish itself as a premier
intellectual center in Asia and beyond and as a platform
for innovation and scientific development in Hong Kong
and the Greater China region. Since its inauguration
in June 2006, the Institute has organized 120 events,
including 79 Distinguished Lectures, 14 of which were
delivered by Nobel Laureates.
The IAS has succeeded in securing Government seed
funding and support for capital construction as well
as funding support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club.
In addition, substantial donations have been received
from or pledged by Lo Ka Chung Charitable Foundation,
Dr Larry Yung, Dr Helmut Sohmen and Prof Anna Pao
Sohmen, Ting Tsung & Wei Fong Global Foundation, Si
Yuan Foundation, The Bank of East Asia Limited, Tin Ka
Ping Foundation, and UC RUSAL.
The Institute champions collaborative projects across
disciplines and institutions in high impact areas. In
addition to the nine renowned scholars reported in
last year’s annual report who have established joint
laboratories and research groups with the IAS, four

additional renowned scholars have been added to the
list this year. They are Prof Marvin Cohen of UC Berkeley,
Prof Eric Maskin of IAS at Princeton University, Prof
Bright Sheng of the University of Michigan, and Prof
Pravin Varaiya of UC Berkeley.
Located atop the HKUST main campus, the IAS building
is currently under construction and is expected to be
ready for occupancy by the summer of 2012. Covering
a floor area of approximately 8,300 sq m, the five-storey
building will provide space for classrooms, teaching
laboratories, offices, library facilities plus student and
staff amenities.
高研院大樓位處科大校園最高點，目前仍在興建階段，預
計2012年夏季落成使用。該大樓共有五層，樓面面積約
8,300平方米，設有教室、教學實驗室、辦公室、圖書館及
康樂設施。
