隨
著全球經濟及社會環境不斷變遷，科大致力發展傳統
學術範圍以外的教學與研究。科大集合各學院的優
勢，在跨學科課程事務處主任陳志明教授的領導下，開辦
跨學科課程，讓學生結合自己的能力與興趣，培養從多個
層面解決困難的能力。
跨學科課程事務處在2009年9月推出香港首個綜合風險管
理及商業智能理學士課程，繼而開辦大受歡迎的科技及管
理雙學位課程；兩個學位課程均吸引眾多頂尖的本港及國
際學生報讀。
事務處亦不斷開展課外活動，包括實習安排、國際案例競
賽、公司資助項目及與海外院校的合作計劃等，旨在全面
提高學生的能力，以便應付跨文化及跨學科議題。
事務處2010年5月舉行風險管理與商業智能座談會，邀請
中港兩地學術界、銀行業、資產管理及顧問行業的知名講
者出席。香港金融管理局副總裁阮國恒先生是座談會的主
講嘉賓，在會上分享對銀行業監管改革的見解；是次座談
會吸引300多名學者及市民參加。
環境學部
跨學科課程事務處於2009年秋季設立環境學部，邀請三
奪普立茲獎的作家兼專欄作家湯馬斯．佛里曼先生在成立
典禮上發表專題演講。環境學部具有前瞻性的橫向組織架
構，跨越科大所有學院，教職員來自理學院、工學院、商
學院、人文社會科學學院等。他們共同為學生提供嶄新的
本科生及研究學位跨學科教育及研究，提高學生處理複雜
全球性問題、及從多方面探討環境問題的能力。學部提供
的課程包括環境管理及科技理學士、環境科學及管理理學
碩士／深造文憑、大氣環境科學哲學碩士／哲學博士，以
及海洋環境科學哲學碩士／哲學博士。
環境學部署理主任陳澤強教授為環境學部與化學工程及生
物分子工程學系教授，並兼任環境研究所所長。陳教授
是氣溶膠化學及空氣污染的專家，2009年因「大氣微粒及
其前體的排放與複合污染特性」項目所取得的成就而榮獲
2009年國家自然科學獎二等獎。

he Interdisciplinary Programs Office (IPO) is a clear
demonstration of the University’s commitment
to teaching, learning and research that goes beyond
traditional academic boundaries in response to the
evolving nature of today’s global economy and social
landscape. Drawing on the expertise of HKUST’s special
combination of schools, and led by Prof Chi-ming Chan,
its Director, the Office administers programs that enable
students to interconnect their abilities and interests and
equip them with multi-dimensional problem-solving skills.
In September 2009, the IPO launched Hong Kong’s
first integrated BSc in Risk Management and Business
Intelligence. The pioneering degree joined the well-
established and highly regarded Dual Degree Program
in Technology and Management. Both degree programs
have attracted many high-flying local and international
students.
In addition, enterprising extra-curricular activities are
continuously being developed to increase students’ all-
round abilities to tackle cross-cultural and interdisciplinary
issues. These include internships, international case
competitions, company-sponsored projects and
collaborative programs with overseas universities.
A Symposium on Risk Management and Business
Intelligence was held in May 2010 featuring a wide
range of speakers from the academic, banking, asset
management and consultancy sectors in Hong Kong
and Mainland China. Mr Arthur Yuen, Deputy Chief
Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority who
was invited as keynote speaker, shared his insights
on regulatory reform for the banking sector. The
Symposium attracted over 300 academics and members
of the public.
Division of Environment
In the Fall of 2009, the Division of Environment was
established under the IPO, with an inaugural lecture by
three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning author and columnist
Mr Thomas Friedman. The Division has a forward-
looking horizontal structure that cuts across all HKUST
schools, drawing faculty members from science,
engineering, business and social science and humanities.
Together they provide the innovative undergraduate
and postgraduate interdisciplinary education and
research necessary to tackle some of the world’s most
complex and multi-faceted environmental issues. These
programs include BSc in Environmental Management
and Technology, an MSc/GD in Environmental Science
and Management, an MPhil/PhD in Atmospheric
Environmental Science, and an MPhil/PhD in Marine
Environmental Science.
The Acting Head of the Division is Prof Chak K Chan
who has a joint appointment with the Division and
of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular
Engineering and Director of the Institute for the
Environment. In 2009, Prof Chan, an expert in aerosol
chemistry and air pollution, received the 2009 State
Natural Science Award (second class) in recognition of
his achievements in the project “The Characteristics
of Emission and Complex Pollution of Atmospheric
Particulate Matter and its Precursors”.
