T
he past year has been a year of bounty for this university, gifted
as it was with an unprecedented $800 million from the Fok Ying
Tung Foundation. This is a prime example of the community
becoming a pillar of support for higher education. This major donation
will be used in two ways: HK$300 million will support University
Grants Committee-funded programs as outlined in the University’s
Strategic Plan; and the remaining HK$500 million will go toward the
establishment of Nansha Graduate School, due to be completed
by 2008.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Enterprise Center, constructed with the
help of a HK$100 million donation from The Hong Kong Jockey Club
Charities Trust, is another example of how the University and the
community can work together to shape its future.
Generous support has flowed in from many different sectors of the
community, including corporations, major philanthropists and alumni.
These gifts helped the University reach the ceiling of the Government’s
Second Matching Grant scheme in seven months, raising a total of
HK$698 million. Together with unmatchable donations, the amount
reached an impressive HK$1.2 billion.
For the Institute for Advanced Study, the University was delighted
to receive generous donations from Dr Helmut and Professor Anna
Sohmen as well as Si Yuan Foundation respectively for establishing
two Chair Professorship. Each Chair is valued at $30 million, including
Government matching.

年，科大獲得社會各界多項捐獻，成
績斐然，其中霍英東基金會捐資8億港
元，足以證明社會的力量，已成為支
持高等教育追求卓越的重要支柱。該筆資助將用
於兩方面：3億港元將用於支持科大推動策略發
展計劃中，獲大學教育資助委員會資助的項目；
其餘5億港元將用於設立南沙研究院，預計將於
2008年落成。
由香港賽馬會慈善信託基金資助一億港元而成立
的香港賽馬會創新科技中心，亦是科大與社會各
界緊密合作，共建美好未來的有力證明。
有賴企業、慈善家、校友及社會各界慷慨捐獻，
科大才能繼續前進。這些捐款令科大在短短七個
月內，達到政府第二輪配對補助金計劃的上限，
總共籌集了6.98億港元。連同未獲配對的捐款，
募集資金達12億港元。
高等研究院方面，科大喜獲分別來自蘇海文博士
及蘇包陪慶教授，以及思源基金會的慷慨捐助，
以設立兩名講座教授，每名的金額為3,000萬港
元，包括政府配對補助金。
