• HKUST received a US$500,000 donation from the
Tongyi Industrial Group to boost the development
of the Center for Electronic Commerce at HKUST
Business School. The Center was named after the
Group in appreciation of its generosity.
• The Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA (EMBA) program
was ranked No.1 in the world by the
Financial Times
for the fifth straight year.
• HKUST partnered with Infiniti Motor Company
Limited, offering top engineering students the
opportunity to gain experience at the new Infiniti
Performance Engineering Academy.

• HKUST established the Partner State Key Laboratory
on Advanced Display s and Optoelec tronic s
Technologies with Sun Yat-Sen University, following
approval from the Minis tr y of Science and
Technology.
• The Department of Mechanical Engineering officially
changed its name to the Department of Mechanical
and Aerospace Engineering.
• The Department of Industrial Engineering and
Logistics Management held a 20th anniversary
forum and commemorative dinner. A plaque was
presented to the wife of late Prof Raymond Cheung
in recognition of his achievements.
• The School of Engineering hosted the inaugural
HKUS T- USC J o i n t Wo r k s hop on B i g Da t a
Applications.
• The Univer sit y and s trategic par tner École
Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne held the
first EPFL-HKUST Workshop on Computer and
Communication Sciences.
• The School of Humanities and Social Science co-
organized an interdisciplinary conference on Wealth
Accumulation and Inequality of Opportunities with
the HKUST Institute for Emerging Market Studies,
French Center for Research on Contemporary
China, and the Groupe d’Analyse et de Théorie
Economique.
• The Division of Environment and HKUST Fok Ying
Tung Graduate School held a seminar on “High
Performance Computing Applications for the
TianHe-1A Supercomputer”, hosted by Prof Luo Jun,
Deputy Director of the National Supercomputer
Center in Tianjin.
• The Division of Humanities and HKUST Jockey
Club Institute for Advanced Study co-organized an
international forum entitled “What Can a Writer
Do While Facing the Absurd Reality?”. Writers and
academics in attendance included Leo Ou Fan Lee,
Pingyuan Chen, Ziping Huang, Zidong Xu, Yao
Wang, Carlos Rojas as well as Zaifu Liu, Lianke Yan
and Hua Yu.
• The Depar tment of Computer Science and
Engineering and Hong Kong Federation of Education
Workers jointly held the Android Application Design
Contest, enabling secondary school participants to
demonstrate their programming skills and innovative
ideas.
• The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular
Engineering arranged a celebration party to mark its
20th anniversary.
