• Prof Jitendra V Singh was appointed Dean of HKUST
Business School, with effect from September 2014.
• HKUST formed a partnership with Thales, a major
electronics systems group, to boost innovation and
technological development.
• The first HKUST-Technion Workshop on Systems
Engineering: Theory, Data, Applications was held at
Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.
• The University conferred honorary fellowships on
four distinguished leaders.
• HKUST Business School launched a pioneering
elective course on Social Entrepreneurship and
Venture Philanthropy, with the support of Yeh
Family Philanthropy.
• HKUST co-chaired a Gordon Research Conference
on “Hybrid Electronic & Photonic Materials and
Phenomena – Understanding the Interplay between
Organic and Inorganic Materials”, with overseas
universities, including École Polytechnique Fédérale
Lausanne and Northwestern University.

• The School of Humanities and Social Science and
University of California, Los Angeles, co-organized
a workshop on “Rewriting the Past: Historical
Big Data and a Scholarship of Discovery”, which
brought together major researchers from Mainland
China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the US.
• The HKUST-University of Virginia Jefferson Global
Seminars assisted students from both universities
to engage in dialogue and develop a cross-cultural
perspective.
• The Department of Industrial Engineering and
Logistics Management and the China Academy
of Art ran a second Design Thinking course to
encourage creativity, create fusion for design and
technology ideas and foster cross-disciplinary
expertise.
• The HKUST 2014 One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship
Competition saw a total of 117 teams participate in
the event.
