• HKUST and the Universit y of Ox ford jointly
established the Oxford-HKUST Leadership and
Public Policy Series (LAPP). The Honorable C Y
Leung, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region, and Prof Andrew Hamilton,
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, were
among the officiating guests at the Launch Forum.
• The School of Engineering held the HKUST-Stanford
University Joint Course on Global Manufacturing.
• The Division of Environment co-organized the fourth
International Workshop on Regional Air Quality
Management in Rapidly Developing Economic
Regions, with the HKSAR Environment Bureau,
Tsinghua University, South China University of
Technology and Guangdong Regional Atmospheric
Environmental Research Center.
• For the eighth year, the Dual Degree Program and
the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign jointly
held the Technology and Management International
Business Plan Competition.
• HKUST and the University of Southern California
arranged a forum on 3D printing.

• The Department of Physics organized the IAS
Program on Frontiers of Soft Matter Physics: From
Non-equilibrium Dynamics to Active Matter, the IAS
Program on Topological Matter, Superconductivity
and Majorana, and the IAS Program on Wave
Functional Materials.
• HKUST President Prof Tony F Chan was elected
a member of the US National Academy of
Engineering.
• Prof Jianshu Li, Department of Mathematics, was
elected a member of the Chinese Academy of
Sciences.
• HKUST Business School was ranked top in Asia
and 20th in the world by the University of Texas at
Dallas for its research articles.
• HKUST became the host institution for the 57th
International Mathematical Olympiad to be held in
Hong Kong in 2016.
• Long Service Awards were presented to 240 faculty
and staff members in recognition of their loyalty
and contribution to HKUST’s achievements.
