UNIVERSITY APPOINTMENTS
The position of Vice-President for Academic Affairs was expanded to
include the role of Deputy to the President following a review of the
senior management structure initiated by the University Council.
Pending a search for the post, Professor Roland Chin was appointed
Acting Vice-President for Academic Affairs, and Professor Tony
Eastham, Acting Vice-President for Research and Development.
Over the year, the University Chancellor appointed Mr Herbert
Cheng, Ms Lai-Yuen Chiang, Ms Eliza Chan, Mr Hans Michael
Jebsen, Mr Marcus Lee and Mr Sing-Cheong Liu to the University
Council. He also appointed Mr David Sun, a serving Council member,
as University Treasurer for two years, succeeding Mr Tim Lui.
In recognition of their dedicated service and significant contribution
to the University, the Council appointed 10 additional Honorary
Court Members from among former members of the Court and
Council: Dr the Hon Laura Cha, who resigned in March 2007
following her appointment as Chairman of the University Grants
Committee, Dr Robin Chan, Dr Kenneth Fang, Mr Lester Huang,
Dr the Hon Andrew Li, Ms Kai-Yin Lo, Ms Christine Loh, Mr Tim Lui,
the Hon Sin Chung-Kai and Dr Larry Yung.
The University welcomed eight other community leaders to its Court
as appointed members: Dr Aron Harilela, Mr Victor Hui, Ms Christine
Wong, Ms Frances Yung, Dr Charles Chan, Mr Chau How-Chen,
Mr Michael Liu and Mrs Christine Wong.
Senior academic appointments included: Prof Tongxi Yu, founding
Dean of HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School, concurrently
as Associate Vice-President for Research and Development
(Mainland Programs); Prof Leonard Cheng, acting Dean of the
School of Business and Management; Prof Angelina Yee, Associate
Vice-President (Office of the President); Prof Kim-chong Chong,
Head of the Division of Humanities; Prof Danyang Xie, Head of the
Department of Economics; Prof Jiatao Li, Head of the Department of
Management Organizations.
To honor their outstanding achievements and dedication to the
University, the following professors were awarded the title of
Professor Emeritus on their retirement: Prof Nelson Cue, Physics;
Prof Weikun Ge, Physics; Prof Madeline Chang Sun Wu, Biology;
Prof Po Lock Yue, Chemical Engineering.
Professor Yuk-Shee Chan, formerly Vice-President for Academic
Affairs and concurrently Chair Professor of Finance, accepted the title
of Professor Emeritus on leaving the University service on September 1,
2007 to take up his new post as President of Lingnan University.
科大任命
校董會檢討管理高層架構後，決定擴大學術副
校長的職權，使其包涵首席副校長的工作。
錢大康教授出任署理學術副校長，易東萊教授
出任署理研究及發展副校長，直至大學確定正
式人選。
年內，大學監督委任鄭兆權先生、蔣麗婉女
士、陳清霞女士、捷成漢先生、利承武先生及
廖勝昌先生，成為校董會成員。大學監督並委
任校董會成員孫德基先生，接替雷添良先生，
出任大學司庫，任期兩年。
校董會委任前校董會及顧問委員會成員史美倫
博士（獲委任為大學教育資助委員會主席後，
於2007年3月辭去科大校董會職務）、陳有慶
博士、方鏗博士、黃嘉純先生、李國能博士、
羅啟妍女士、陸恭蕙女士、雷添良先生、單仲
偕議員及榮智健博士，為十名新增的顧問委員
會榮譽委員，以答謝他們對科大作出的傑出服
務及貢獻。
大學委任另外八名社區領袖夏雅朗博士、許晉
奎先生、王嚴君琴女士、榮明方小姐、陳聖澤
博士、周厚澄先生、劉瑞隆先生及黃凱明女士
為顧問委員會委員。
大學高層任命包括：余同希教授任科大霍英東
研究院首任院長，兼任研究及發展協理副校長
（內地研究及學術項目）；鄭國漢教授任工商管
理學院署理院長；余珍珠教授任協理副校長
（校長辦公室）；莊錦章教授任人文學部主任；
謝丹陽教授任經濟學系系主任；李家濤教授任
管理組織學系系主任。
下列教授獲頒「榮休教授」榮銜，以表揚他們
的傑出成就及貢獻：陳顯邦教授（物理學）；
葛惟昆教授（物理學）；吳汪黔生教授（生物
學）；余寶樂教授（化學工程）。
原學術副校長、現任財務學系講座教授陳玉樹
教授，於2007年9月1日離開科大以出任嶺南
大學校長一職時，獲頒「榮休教授」榮銜。
