全球年青科學精英雲集科大，參與首個「英國—香港前線科
學研討會」。該研討會由英國皇家學會及裘槎基金會聯合贊
助，討論科學的前沿問題，包括幹細胞和傳染病等範疇。研
討會主辦單位邀請了70個來自英國及本港大學的年青科學家
參與，包括牛津大學及劍橋大學。
HKUST hosted Hong Kong’s first Frontiers of Science
Symposium sponsored by the Royal Society of Britain and
the Croucher Foundation, covering key research areas such
as stem cell research and infectious diseases. The event
brought together 70 of the best and brightest young
scientists from local and British universities, including
Oxford and Cambridge.
普林斯頓高等研究院院長高達
德博士到訪科大，以「There are no
excuses in paradise」為題出席講座。高
達德博士亦是科大高等研究院國際顧問委
員會成員。

Advanced Study at Princeton, Dr Peter
Goddard, visited the HKUST and gave
a distinguished talk on “There are no
excuses in paradise”. Dr Goddard is also
a member of the International Advisory Board of the Institute for Advanced Study
at HKUST.

寶、李長春、習近平及李克強等國家領導人頒發「國家自然
科學獎」二等獎。

team leaders received

Jintao, Wen Jiabao,
Li Changchun, Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang. Both teams
won the Second Class Prize of the SNSA award.

An HKUST research team comprising Dr Liu Yun-hao
and doctorate student Li Mo (photo) developed the
world’s pioneering wireless sensor network surveillance
system to promote coal mine safety. The system won
the Grand Prize of the Hong Kong ICT Awards’ Best
Innovation and Research Grand Award 2007.

Members of the Hong
Kong Chiu Chow Chamber of Commerce, including President Ma
Kai Cheung and Vice Presidents Hui Hok Chee, presented a cheque
of $4.5 million to HKUST for the establishment of ten postgraduate
scholarships for students who are Chiu Chow origin.
