A delegation from Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah University of Science
and Technology (KAUST) visited HKUST to sign a Memorandum of
Understanding to establish long-term research collaboration between
the two universities and to expand their global network.

科大前教授林毅夫獲世界銀行委聘為首
席經濟學家兼高級副行長。林教授於1995
年加盟科大擔任教授一職，其後於1997年出
任經濟學系教授，並兼任北京大學中國經濟研
究中心主任。2005年，林教授離開科大，全職
擔任北京大學中國經濟研究中心主任。
Former HKUST Prof Justin Lin was appointed
to the World Bank as Chief Economist and
Senior Vice-President. Prof Lin joined the
University as a Reader in 1995 and became a Professor of Economics
from 1997 while also steering the work of Peking University’s China
Center for Economic Research (CCEC). In June 2005, he left HKUST
to work full-time for CCEC.

to conduct World Class Tests in mathematics and
problem-solving for youngsters from more than 20
countries and regions.

The forum “Financial Innovations, Regulation and Risk Management in China:
Lessons from the Sub-prime Crisis” held in the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Beijing’s
Financial Street was a big success. Jointly organized by HKUST with the Beijing
Financial Street Chamber of Commerce and with the support of the Hong
Kong & Macao Affairs Office and the Financial Street Holding Company, the
forum was attended by an audience of 250.

Asia, presented a donation of $5 million to the University.
Two HKUST professors were awarded the prestigious Senior
Research Fellowship by the Croucher Foundation in recognition
of their breakthrough research in compound semiconductors
and fuel cells. Prof Kei May Lau, Chair Professor of Electronic
and Computer Engineering and Director of Photonics Technology
Center, and Prof Tianshou Zhao, Professor of Mechanical
Engineering and Associate Director of the Center for Sustainable
Energy Technology, are among the five scholars in Hong
Kong to receive this distinguished honor.
