the Future
HKUST's strength globally is a testament
to the commitment and contributions of
the University's founders, faculty, stu-
dents, staff and alumni, and the support
of the Hong Kong community. It shows
the impressive standards being set at
HKUST and clearly illustrates the tradition
for excellence established at the
University.
While it has been satisfying to receive
recognition for our continuous efforts to
scale the peaks of achievement, the
rapidly evolving environment of higher
education locally and worldwide means
HKUST cannot afford to stand still.
Therefore, over the year, the University
has drawn on its past successes and cur-
rent accomplishments to establish a
clear path to the next level of achieve-
ment, one that will see HKUST maximize
its impact in the global research arena,
make the most of the opportunities pre-
sented by the dramatic changes
planned for Hong Kong's education sys-
tem, and enable the University to contin-
ue to advance social and economic
development locally and nationally.
The result was the June launch of HKUST's
Strategic Plan.
