Ranked with the Best
Confirming the University's rapid rise to
prominence in the international aca-
demic arena, The Times Higher
Education Supplement (THES) league
table of the world's top 200 universities
placed HKUST at number 42. This ranking,
based on a survey of some 1,300 aca-
demics in 88 countries, showed the wide
esteem in which HKUST is held and the
global standard to which it works.
THES also published global league tables
in several specific fields. In these, HKUST
was ranked 20th for Engineering and IT,
50th in Science, and 57th in Social
Science. Such a strong showing under-
scores the depth and breadth of the
University's reputation and its ability to
lead in the areas in which it specializes.
It proved another outstanding year for
HKUST's business programs in the influen-
tial FT rankings. The University's joint
Executive MBA program with the Kellogg
School of Management at Northwestern
University, US, rose to number six in the
world. HKUST was the only school in Asia-
Pacific listed among the top ten. Our full-
time MBA program climbed to number
44 globally, its highest position since join-
ing the rankings in 2000.
In addition, the FT highlighted the effec-
tiveness of the University's on-going drive
towards internationalization. The
Kellogg-HKUST EMBA ranked number
one and two in the world for the interna-
tional diversity of its students and faculty
respectively, while the HKUST MBA
ranked number one in the international
experience category for the fifth con-
secutive year.
