創意間的親暱
科大人文社會科學學院舉辦「創意間的親
暱」音樂會，邀請蜚聲國際的音樂家演出及
與享譽全球的新晉作曲家討論新樂曲。
The Intimacy of Creativity Series
The series of rehearsals and concerts, hosted by HKUST’s School of
Humanities and Social Science, presented world-famous musicians
from overseas to play and discuss new music with world-famous and
emerging composers.

Cosmology since Einstein
學術會議
高等研究院舉辦為期三天的「Cosmology
since Einstein」學術會議，匯聚24名全球
頂尖科學家，包括一位諾貝爾獎得主，探
討宇宙學的最新發展。
Conference on Cosmology since Einstein
The Institute for Advanced Study held a three-day conference
at which 24 top scientists around the world, including a Nobel
Laureate, explored the most up-to-date developments and
challenges of cosmology.
科大亞洲排名第一
科大在《QS亞洲大學排名》位列亞洲第一，
是科大自創校以來首次榮登亞洲榜首。

成立空氣質量研究超級站
環境學部成立首個空氣質量研究超級站，
收集大氣中顆粒物的實時數據以了解其性
質和來源。
Launch of Air Quality Supersite
The Division of Environment launched the first Air Quality Research
Supersite which enables real-time characterization of ambient
particulate matter in the air to strengthen understanding of the
nature and sources of fine particles.

年創業計劃大賽
學生與校友提交創新的業務計劃，盡展創
意和商業專長。冠軍由華健公司奪得，其
頭髮測試技術可在短時間內準確提供測試
者的健康報告。
HKUST 2011 Entrepreneurship Competition
The competition attracted bright ideas and brilliant business plans
from across the university community, showcasing the innovation
and business expertise. The championship was Wah Kin Holdings
Ltd and its hair-testing technology provides fast, accurate reports on
people’s health.
科大與韓國浦項工大合辦博士課程
科大工學院與韓國浦項工科大學工學院達
成學術及研究合作協議以合辦博士課程，
研究生可進行學術交流。
Joint PhD Program by HKUST and POSTECH
HKUST’s School of Engineering and the College of Engineering at
Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Korea,
reached an agreement for academic and research collaborations,
under which the two institutions will establish a joint degree PhD
program allowing students to conduct academic exchange at both
universities.

講座。
Inaugural Lecture by IAS Director
Prof Henry Tye, a theoretical physicist and the new Director of the
Institute for Advanced Study, gave his inaugural lecture on “Does
the Universe Have a Beginning”.

Exhibition
The exhibition, held at the Hong Kong Science Museum, displayed
the work of HKUST research teams on nanotechnology and their
success in applying nanotechnology to improve the quality of living.

Nobel Lecture by Prof Robert Engle
The Institute for Advanced Study, the HKUST Business School and the
HKUST-NYU Stern MS Program in Global Finance jointly organized
a lecture by Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences Professor Robert
Engle of New York University. Prof Engle spoke on “Global Financial
Stability and Long Run Risks”.
工業工程師學會亞洲會議
工業工程師學會在上海舉行首個亞洲區會
議，由科大工業工程及物流管理學系共同
贊助，與會者分享對亞洲工業工程研究及
其應用的看法。
Institute of Industrial Engineers Asian
Conference
Co-sponsored by the Department of Industrial Engineering and
Logistics Management, the Institute of Industrial Engineers had its
first regional conference IIE Asian Conference held in Shanghai to
share insights on industrial engineering research and its applications
in Asia.
成立科大惠理投資研究中心
科大與惠理集團有限公司共同宣布成立科
大商學院惠理投資研究中心，是香港首間
推動投資管理研究及培訓的學術中心，惠
理集團捐贈近港幣1,000萬元。
Launch of Value Partners Center for
Investing at HKUST
HKUST and Value Partners Group Limited jointly announced the
launch of the Value Partners Center for Investing at the HKUST
Business School - the first academic center of its kind in Hong Kong
to support research and training on investment management. Value
Partners contributed close to $10 million to jointly launch the Center.

科大夥拍國際電機電子工程師學會（IEEE）
及香港應用科技研究院合辦首屆 IEEE 科
技領袖研討會，以展望 2020 年的科技為
主題。
IEEE Technology Time Machine Symposium
HKUST joined hands with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers (IEEE) and Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology
Research Institute to launch the first IEEE Technology Time Machine
(TTM) Symposium with the theme “Technologies beyond 2020”.
頒授榮譽院士
科大向四名傑出領袖頒授榮譽院士，包括
方潤華博士、金樂琦教授、關育材工程師
及沈向洋教授。
Conferment of Honorary Fellowships
HKUST conferred Honorary Fellowships on four distinguished leaders.
They were Dr Fong Yun-Wah, Prof Roger King, Ir James Kwan, and
Prof Harry Shum.
