研究資助
於2008年6月宣佈的研資局優配研究金計劃
中，科大的研究人員獲撥款9,330萬港元，佔
香港高等院校撥款總額近五分之一。於這次由
海外專家評審的年度角逐中，科大：
•
成功率最高，較去年再度攀升（59.7%）
•
合資格教學人員個人撥款最高（220,000
港元）參與率最高（合資格教學人員中有
38.4%獲資助）
•
工程學獲得兩項最高撥款（吳宏偉教授獲得
119萬港元及趙天壽教授獲得110萬港元）
•
自然科學獲得五項最高撥款（郭志宏教授、
甘劍平教授、湯子康教授、童彭爾教授、
王寧教授各獲得88.3萬港元）
角逐成功與否取決於計劃書的水平及申請人的
研究往績，而結果乃由國際學術業界評定，撥
款結果足證科大研究及學術水平非同凡響。
•
HKUST signed 124 research and development contracts
with industrial and public sector clients, worth more than
$84 million
•
HKUST’s R and D Corporation licensed 43 patents that
were assigned to HKUST, together with a further 5
patents that were re-assigned and sold

R and D Corporation continued to incubate 14 start-up
companies based on expertise and technology developed
at HKUST
Research Funding
In the RGC General Research Fund program announced
on in June 2008, HKUST researchers were awarded $93.3
million, accounting for almost one-fifth of the total
awarded to Hong Kong’s tertiary institutions. In this annual
internationally peer-reviewed competition, HKUST claims:
•
the highest success rate, yet again by a substantial
margin (59.7%)
•
the highest funding per eligible faculty ($220,000) the
highest participation rate (38.4% of eligible faculties were
funded)
•
the two highest grants in Engineering ($1.19 million
to Prof Charles Ng, and $1.10 million to Prof Tianshou
Zhao)
•
five of the highest grants in Physical Sciences ($883,000
each to Profs Zhihong Guo, Jianping Gan, Zikang Tang,
Penger Tong and Ning Wang)
As the success in this competition is dependent on the
quality of proposals, as perceived by international peers,
and on the track record of the applicants, these funding
results testify to the excellence of research and scholarship
at HKUST.
