COMMUNITY
ENGAGEMENT
Knowledge-sharing with the public
Members of the public were brought face to face with the world of innovation through an exciting
display of the School of Engineering’s work at the Hong Kong Science Museum in October 2011.
The
Bring Technology to Community
exhibition showcased the latest technology developed by faculty
members, students and alumni that make an impact on people’s lives. Items included an underwater
robot, a mini smart car, and a digital photo frame designed to offer cognitive therapy for Alzheimer’s
patients.
In January 2012, the School of Business and Management launched a new round of the popular
Business Insights Presentation Series. These monthly talks for the business community and general
public enable faculty members to share and gain feedback on their research findings and topical issues
of interest. HKUST faculty members also regularly contribute articles to the media. The Business
School, for instance, published about 50 articles in local media between July 2011 and June 2012.
Bringing HKUST discoveries, new knowledge and expertise into the community
is part of the University’s mission to assist the economic and social development
of Hong Kong. In 2011-12, faculty, students and alumni contributed to society
through sharing insights and knowledge, service programs and alumni
development. The University was also grateful for support from donors,
enabling HKUST to drive forward in its work.
