HKUST also seeks to build the professional
academic skills of HKUST’s teaching
assistants. By doing so, the University
deepens the overall education provision
to current students and assists in the
development of quality faculty members
who will make a difference at HKUST and
leading institutions worldwide.
Faculty recruitment
With the advent of the four-year
undergraduate curriculum, the University
has been strengthening the size and
distinction of its faculty. At 30 June 2012,
there were a total of 3,133 members of
staff, including 514 faculty members,
in post. Proactive efforts were made in
global faculty recruitment, aiming at 100
new and replacement faculty members
in five years, and regular and visiting
faculty members both saw increases
over the previous year. In line with
these recruitment moves, the University
implemented a new faculty compensation
review system to enhance international
competitiveness of faculty salaries and at
the same time reward achievements and
contributions.
The University’s world-class
faculty members lie at the heart
of the HKUST success story.
