t
he School of Business and Management,
ranked among the
best in the world, attracts faculty and students from around the world. At
the same time it never loses sight of HKUST’s mission to help Hong Kong in its
pursuit of social and economic development.
The School consists of six departments: Accounting, Economics, Finance,
Information & Systems Management, Marketing, and Management of
Organizations. All contain faculty members who excel in their own specialties
and are attracted by HKUST’s excellent research and teaching environment.
Among them are the most cited scholars or top contributors to academic
journals worldwide. Their research interests invariably target the needs of
industry and the business community in the region and beyond.
They teach high caliber students from Hong Kong, Mainland China, across Asia
and around the world. Some 40% of the intake of their joint EMBA program
with Kellogg School of Management “fly in” from overseas to take classes.
An International EMBA program targets senior executives working in China,
or those whose business relates to the Mainland. Other forms of executive
education, which do not involve a degree, are another of the School’s specialties.
Students’ progress is aided by close partnerships with blue-chip companies,
professional firms and government departments and agencies which offer
internships and opportunities for applied research.
The
Economist Intelligence Unit
this year ranked the School’s full-time MBA
program as the best in Asia, while the joint EMBA program with the Kellogg
School of Management at Northwestern University was ranked third in the world
by the
Financial Times
; impressive accomplishments for such a young school.
Individual faculties’ research efforts win consistent recognition worldwide.
This year saw the 10th anniversary of the School’s Kellogg-HKUST EMBA
program, celebrated by a management conference, “Moving Forward in the
Next Decade”, with the Hon Henry Tang, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong
Special Administrative Region, as the guest of honor. The School’s global reach
was underlined by the launch of a joint Master of Science in Global Finance
program with New York University’s Stern School of Business.
