短
短十五年間，科大取得的成就，超乎
預期。已臻世界水平的科研人才及
研究設施，是我們享譽國際的原因之
一。當然，我們在臨海優美校園所提供的優質教
育，也居功至偉。
科大共有四個學院，即理學院、工學院、工商
管理學院及人文社會科學學院。科大約有9,000
名學生，其中64%是本科生，23%是碩士生，
13%是研究生。
科大有約1,500名為非本地學生，佔全體學生總
數的17%。每年，我們均有數百名本科生，參與
科大與逾百海外機構合作的交流計劃。
科大的450名教職員，來自24個不同國家，組成
一支國際性的教研團隊。其中逾半（52%）來自海
外，約三份一來自北美洲。
大學的理學院、工學院及工商管理學院，分別提
供本科生及研究生課程學位；而人文社會科學學
院則開辦研究生課程，並為所有本科生提供通識
教育。由於本校以英語授課，故對提升英語能力
的課程為必修科。

Undergraduate Education
I
n 15 years, HKUST has climbed higher than we dare to dream.
Our world-ranked research facilities and faculty are our main claim
to fame. Not enough credit, however, has gone to the quality
education that we offer on our stunning sea-view campus.
The University’s teaching faculty is organized around four schools:
the School of Science, School of Engineering, School of Business &
Management, and School of Humanities & Social Science. The student
population stands at about 9,000, with 64% enrolled in undergraduate
programs, 23% in taught masters programs and 13% in research post-
graduate programs.
About 1,500 students (17% of student population) are non-local
students. Every year several hundred undergraduates participate in
exchange programs with over a hundred institutions overseas.
The University has an international faculty mix, with 450 faculty
members from 24 countries. More than half of the faculty members
(52%) are from outside Hong Kong and Mainland China, and about
one-third are from North America.
Three of the University’s schools — Science, Engineering, and Business
and Management — offer both undergraduate and postgraduate
degree programs. The School of Humanities and Social Science
offers postgraduate degree programs and general education for all
undergraduates. As the medium of instruction is English, classes aimed
at improving English language skills are required of most students.
