KUST ’s Bu s i ne s s S choo l made s i gn i f i c an t
achievements again as the EMBA and MBA
programs continued to rank high in international
surveys. The Kellogg-HKUST program was ranked first
by the
Financial Times
2009 EMBA global ranking. For
the fifth consecutive year, the program has been rated
among the world’s top three. In January 2010, the
MBA program was ranked ninth by the
Financial Times
,
the highest ever for a Hong Kong-run program. This
came just a few months after
The Economist

first in Asia. The School’s research ranking has made a
significant jump from 17

The School laid the fundamentals of its four-year
business undergraduate degree programs last year as
the draft of the four-year curriculum was endorsed
by its Committee on Undergraduate Programs,
School Administration Committee, its Board and
the University. To expand exchange opportunities
for its undergraduates, the School signed its 107

undergraduate student exchange agreement with the
Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, which
is ranked 7
th
among the best business schools in the
United States.
As part of the School’s continued pursuit of quality and
excellence, it underwent the first international peer
review of its PhD programs in September 2009, three
months after its undergraduate programs underwent a
separate international peer review.

Major events held on the Mainland helped to connect
the School to its Mainland-based alumni and to reach
out to the corporate sector. They included forums
attended by CEOs and seminars given by Prof Gang
Yi, Adjunct Professor at HKUST and Deputy Governor
of the People’s Bank of China. The School also held
three forums in Beijing, Shenzhen and Shenyang on the
expansion of China’s companies into emerging markets.
The forums received an enthusiastic response and were
covered extensively by Mainland media.
All units of the Business School will be brought together
under one roof for the first time at the Lee Shau Kee
Business Building which is under construction. The
Building will be located at the new Lee Shau Kee
campus to be opened by 2012. Its development was
supported by the Lee Shau Kee Foundation with a $400
million donation.
The School introduced the Social Responsibilities
Project in 2007 to encourage students to apply their
academic knowledge and contribute to society through
participating, planning and executing service projects.
The Project was later adopted by the University in 2009
to launch HKUST Connect which encourages HKUST
students from all schools to engage in community
projects.
