劇「How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying」
Career Mosaic
Career Guide》。
A community engagement initiative, HKUST Connect,
was introduced in the Fall of 2009 to build on the
University’s efforts in raising civic awareness and
developing sustainable partnerships with the wider
community. Students are encouraged to apply their
academic knowledge to contribute to society through
participating, planning and executing service projects.
Students may also choose to engage in the one-credit
Service Learning Practicum to develop and implement
their projects with guided facilitation by faculty members
and instructors.
Wellness Programs
After attending the Peer Counselor Program, over
110 students subsequently formed a network of
peer counselors to promote a caring culture among
students. The “Healthy Living Festival 2010 – The Road
to Resilience” attracted an enthusiastic response from
students and staff members with a series of talks,
workshops, exhibitions and sharing sessions. Community
leaders were invited to attend some of these sharing
sessions to talk about their personal experience with
students.
Arts and Cultural Activities
Throughout the year, students took part in a great
variety of art and cultural activities. With the joint
effort of the Center for the Arts and student societies,
the HKUST Arts Festival 2010 once again achieved
resounding success.
Over 60 students and alumni demonstrated to full-
house audiences that science, engineering and business
students could also do well outside their classroom and
laboratories and perform on the musical stage. They put
on a three-hour award-winning Broadway musical "How
to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying". All three
performances received rave responses from audiences.
Preparing for the World of Work
In 2009-10, the Career Center continued to actively
engage students in a wide range of programs, courses
and events to better equip them for the future. The
Internship Learning Scheme, aimed at nurturing
students with strong academic knowledge and career
competencies, offered structured pre-internship training
and internship opportunities in Hong Kong, on the
Mainland and overseas for 180 participants.
The one-credit Career Building Course covered all the
basics of career planning and job search, supplemented
by practical experience and personalized feedback
for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The
On-campus Internship Program provided on-campus
internship opportunities for undergraduate students at
various departments and offices while Career Mosaic, a
large-scale job fair held four times a year, helped connect
employers and students. More than 230 recruitment
talks and career development programs were held and
the first issue of
HKUST Career Guide
was published.
