President’s Report
因應這些發展，我們有需要擴建校園，各項工程整體進度
良好。圖書館的擴建工程即將完成；李兆基校園已正式動
工興建，工程進行得如火如荼。8號宿舍及9號宿舍已於
2010年10月初動工，而位於將軍澳及馬鞍山的聯校宿舍
也正在籌備中。這些硬件的質素及數量，均能配合擴展本
科教育帶來的軟件需求。
本港各大學都正在招攬頂尖學術人才，以滿足擴展教育的
需要。單是科大一所院校，就需要在2012年增聘100多名
教職員；這場競賽將會非常激烈。然而，科大很榮幸能夠
成功招攬頂級學者加入管理團隊。首席副校長一職由史維
教授出任，史教授學術成就超卓。副校長（研發及研究生
教育）一職則由李行偉教授擔任，李教授是傑出學者，擁
有豐富的行政管理經驗。我們邀得翁以登博士出任新設的
副校長（大學拓展）一職，翁博士在國際關係、公共政策、
商務發展及企業事務方面均有卓越成就。明年一月初，戴
自海教授將加入科大擔任高等研究院院長。他們都是一流
人才，既有領導才能，亦熱心教育。科大將進一步壯大領
導層的陣容。
我們的角色與推動香港實現高科技的理想息息相關、不可
劃分。然而要一展抱負，就必定不能錯過內地這個廣闊的
舞台。要籌劃未來，就必須有清晰長遠的內地發展策略。
現時，我們已與新成立的南方科技大學簽訂協議，成為戰
略合作夥伴；該校的辦學模式正是以科大為藍本。位於廣
州南沙的科大霍英東研究院新大樓正在興建中，至目前為
止已經成功獲得國家863、973工程、國家自然科學基金項
目、廣東省、廣州市和南沙政府、粵港合作以及工業、院
校合作等50項研究基金，並得到國家科技部頒授「國際科
技合作基地」的稱號及於香港與珠三角之間的《更緊密經貿
關係安排》中具體提及。僅僅一岸之隔，另一幢新的深圳
產學研大樓即將開幕，租戶已陸續遷入。
科大上下一心，為實踐共同的目標和使命一起進發。因此
我們提倡「同一科大」（1-HKUST）的理念，亦即在教育、
研究、組織、社會服務和文化五方面的縱橫整合。我們深
信團結就是力量，科大必會更為強大，這亦是我們最引以
為豪的。在此，我誠邀各界友好踴躍參與科大的20周年校
慶，這項慶典必能匯聚為一股力量，驅使我們以更大衝勁
與動力向前邁進。
展望第三個十年，我深信科大必定能夠繼續茁壯成長。我
們的夢想有多大、理想有多遠，成長和發展就有多大、和
多遠。
strategic partnership with the new South University
of Science and Technology of China - modeled on
HKUST. Our new main building at the HKUST Fok
Ying Tung Graduate School in Nansha, Guangzhou, is
under construction. It has secured 50 research projects,
including State 863 and 973 projects, National Natural
Science Foundation projects, as well as industrial and
institutional cooperative projects. It has also secured
research funding from Guangdong Province, Guangzhou
Municipality, the Nansha Government, and Guangdong-
Hong Kong cooperative ventures. The School has been
awarded the title of State Scientific Cooperation Base
by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China.
It also enjoys the unique honor of being specifically
identified in the CEPA agreement between Hong Kong
and the Pearl River Delta. Just across the border, another
new Shenzhen IER Building awaits the ribbon-cutting
ceremony, with prospective tenants already lined up for
occupancy.
Internally, HKUST is solidifying as a community driven
by ideas and a sense of mission. That is why we have
coined the 1-HKUST concept, to promote horizontal as
well as vertical integration — in education, research,
organization, community engagement and culture. We
all believe that the University is greater than the sum
of its parts. HKUST is a proud and united community
with much to be proud of. I invite all stakeholders and

Your support will strengthen our impetus and renew
our energy to build on the culture of excellence we have
established over the two decades.
As we look ahead to our third decade, I see an upward
trajectory in our growth and development, limited only
by the size and reach of our dreams and ambitions.
