HKUST 2006-2007 Annual Report
The Institute for Advanced Study is off and running. A series of
distinguished lectures by great intellectual leaders including the
renowned mathematician Sir Michael Atiyah has made the HKUST
campus come alive with intellectual ferment. Several laboratories
are being established jointly in collaborations with world prominent
scholars. In the new physical expansion westward, the IAS will have
its nerve center within the new perimeters. Our dream is dramatically
gaining steam.
We are a community of achievers. The performance of our academic
staff during the past year is no less stellar than in the past. Our
rankings remain lofty and awards are plentiful among our staff and
students. The university continues to raise its global profile. We are
ranked 17th in science and technology in the world by the
Times
Higher Education Supplement
. Our joint EMBA program with the
Kellogg School of Management has a stranglehold on the top-three
global position. Partnerships with other academic leading institutions
are growing. In the past year alone, we have signed exchange
agreements with 19 overseas universities, including a three-university
three-continent partnership agreement with Universität Karlsruhe of
Germany, and Carnegie Mellon University of the United States. Our
School of Business has partnered the Stern Business School of New
York University in a joint program. These arrangements ensure an
authentic international experience for our students.
HKUST has an unfolding story to tell. With each success, our ranks
of believers are growing, triangulating our support among industry,
the community and our government. We hope that it is a story that
Hong Kong, our country and the world will be anxious to hear.

與學日趨重要，本科生將於課程學習初段，
便參與研究工作，以領略科研的樂趣。除專門
的專業技能外，學校將更重視綜合能力的培
養，以協助學生應對數碼時代的各種挑戰。
科大高等研究院進展順利，包括數學家
阿蒂亞爵士（
Sir Michael Atiyah
）在內的多位
學術界翹楚，先後前來高研院發表演講，
令科大校園洋溢濃厚的學術氣息。我們的
教授，正與多位舉世知名的學者，設立聯合
實驗室，攜手進行研究。當校園擴建工程竣
工後，高研院屹立山丘之上，成為一個具規
模的知識中心，我們的夢想指日可待。
科大校園滿載榮譽。教授的教研表現優異，
大學排名穩踞前列，師生獲得的獎項，碩
果纍纍，國際聲望與日俱增。在《泰晤士
報高等教育特刊》全球科技大學排名中，
科大位列第
17
位。科大與凱洛格管理學院
（
Kellogg School of Management
）合辦的行政
工商管理學碩士課程，穩踞全球三甲排名。
與此同時，科大與其他一流學術機構的合
作，亦不斷增加。我們與德國卡爾斯魯大學
（
Universität Karlsruhe
）及美國卡耐基梅隆大
學（
Carnegie Mellon University
）於去年簽訂
一份三大洲三學府的合作協議。工商管理學
院與紐約大學斯特恩商學院（
Stern School of
Business
）合作，開辦聯合課程，為本校學生
提供國際交流的學習機會。
科大正向世界展現丰采。每項成就
均令人對科大滿懷信心。在業界、
社會及政府的鼎力支持下，我們期
盼，科大可向香港、國家以至世界
展出更扣人心弦的丰姿。
