forward on a campus masterplan that will provide facility
upgrade to support our current initiatives and future
development. Sporting activities will benefit from a new
hall and a water sports center. In addition, major University
gatherings and events will be able to utilize a 1,000-seat
multi-purpose auditorium. The hostel in Tseung Kwan O is
expected to provide an extra 520 bed spaces for students.
With the completion of the Cheng Yu Tung Building, the
state-of-the-art laboratories and teaching facilities became
available on the campus, undoubtedly adding to our
strengths in both the advancement of research and
teaching. These much-needed additions will help build
cohesiveness within the HKUST community.
Events to celebrate this 25
th
anniversary landmark took
shape over the year, with an engaging program arranged to
highlight HKUST’s remarkable progress and achievements
in just two and a half decades. From the launch of our
Distinguished Speaker Series this September to co-hosting
the Asian Physics Olympiad and International Mathematical
Olympiad on campus in May and July 2016 respectively, as
well as the Global 25
th
Anniversary Celebration Dinners and
School-sponsored Conferences in four major cities around
