• Two teams of PhD students comprising Mr Yin Zhu,
Mr Erheng Zhong and Mr Bin Wu, and Mr Ben Tan,
Mr Erheng Zhong and Mr Kaixiang Mo, all Computer
Science and Engineering, won separate championship
awards at the Nokia Mobile Data Challenge 2012.
Mr Yin Zhu also received a Google Fellowship as part of
the Google PhD Fellowship Program.

received Hong Kong PhD
Fellowships.
• Members of Computer Science and Engineering won
two best paper awards at IEEE Globecom 2012: PhD
students Ms Lu Wang and Ms Jiang Xiao, Dr Kaishun Wu,
and Prof Mounir Hamdi for “FCM: Frequency Domain
Cooperative Sensing and Multi-channel Contention for
CRAHNs”; and Ms Jin Zhang, Mr Dawei Chen,
Prof Qian Zhang, and an industry collaborator for
“deStress: Mobile and Remote Stress Monitoring,
Alleviation, and Management Platform”.

Mr Shaoming Huang took
first place in the Student
Research Competition at the
ACM SIGPLAN Programming
Language Design and
Implementation Conference.
• PhD students Mr Wei Chen and Ms Jianying
Zheng, Electronic and Computer Engineering,
received the Best Student Paper Award at the 2012
IEEE International Conference on Information and
Automation.
• Bioengineering PhD student
Ms Danhui Cheng received
a Fulbright-RGC Hong Kong
Research Scholar Award.
Students and Researchers
• PhD student Mr Chun Hang Leung, Civil and
Environmental Engineering, received the Best Paper
Award in the Papers Competition 2012, organized by the
Graduates & Students Division of the Institution of Civil
Engineers Hong Kong Association.
• Physics PhD student Mr Xiaoguang Ma won the Best
Student Presentation Award for “Colloidal Diffusion
Over a Periodic Energy Landscape” at the 16th Annual
Conference of the Physical Society of Hong Kong.
• PhD student Mr Tongde
Huang, Electronic and
Computer Engineering,
received the Best
Student Paper Award at
the IEEE International
Conference on Solid-
State and Integrated
Circuit Technology.
