HKUST 2012-13 Annual Report
15
HKUST Connect is a significant way for students to launch and gain experience of service learning
and community projects. It collaborates with over 75 community partners to offer different types of
service opportunities. In 2012-13, over 2,600 participants took part in 145 service projects through the
program. During its signature HKUST Service Learning Day, held over four days in April 2013, more than
970 students, faculty members, staff and alumni participated in 49 service projects.
THEWORLD ON CAMPUS
Increasing student diversity is an important priority for HKUST. In the 2012-13 academic year, the non-
local undergraduates on campus represented a diverse group, with approximately 56% from Mainland
China, 37% from other places in Asia and 7% from the rest of the world. This was the most diverse
group of non-local undergraduate students among UGC-funded institutions. The group included 382
non-local students newly admitted in 2012. The University is on track toward its target of 20% non-
local students, with an equal split between students from Mainland China and other places.
