Robocon Team 19 Champion, Robocon 2017 Hong Kong Contest Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Team 20 Champion, Explorer Class, 12th Hong Kong Regional MATE International ROV Competition 21 All-around Champion and Safety Conscious Award, MATE International ROV Competition 2017 Smart Car Team 22 Second Class Awards in the Balance Group, Beacon Group and Camera Group, and a Certificate of Merit in the Chasing Group, 11th NXP Cup Intelligent Car Racing Competition, South China Region Others 23 Post-doctoral Fellow Menglong Zeng , Division of Life Science, received a 2016 Young Scientist Award from the Hong Kong Institution of Science. 24 PhD student Li Chen , Department of Computer Science and Engineering, was granted a 2016 Microsoft Research Asia Fellowship Award. 25 PhD students Quanming Yao and Hong Zhang , Department of Computer Science and Engineering, received Google 2016 Global PhD Fellowship Awards. 26 An undergraduate team from the School of Business and Management, comprising Grace Tin Wai Lam , Chun Kit Tam , and Ming Lun Cheung , won the championship at the ISACA Case Competition 2017. 27 A team comprising Global Business students Ernest Man-hing Hung , Johnny Jong-chin Lam and Sahil Mohnani , won the SCMP/IFPHK Financial Planner Awards for 2016 (University Student Category). 28 Undergraduate Hercules Kai Ho Chan , Risk Management and Business Intelligence, and PhD student Harry Kai Ho Chan , Department of Computer Science and Engineering, won the Best Student Invention Grand Award at the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2017. HKUST MEDALS 30 A Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering undergraduate team, comprising Alexander Tse , Peng Zhou , Zihang Zhang , Chenxi Feng , and Chunli Jiang , won the HKUST President’s Cup. 31 Prof Garvin Percy Dias , Information Systems, Business Statistics and Operations Management, received the Michael G Gale Medal for Distinguished Teaching. 32 Karen Ka Wun Wong , Global China Studies, Vice-Chairperson of the Council of Students’ Union in 2015- 2016, was awarded the Stephen Cheong Kam-chuen Medal for Distinguished Service to the Student Body. 33 Dr Jason Chan , Department of Chemistry, received the HKUST Common Core Teaching Excellence Award 2016 for his course, “Chemistry in Everyday Life”.
