creative arts language education humanities social science online resources 49 Among 29 Master of Science in Global China Studies (MGCS) students in the 2016-17 cohort, 11 will begin other Master programs in elite universities such as HKUST, University College London, Oxford, John Hopkins, and Peking University. The Master of Arts in International Language Education (MAILE) recruited 48 students for its cohort in 2017-18, with 18 students enrolled in the Teaching English as a Second Language concentration and 30 in the Teaching Chinese as a Second Language concentration. In addition, the MAILE dual degree pathway with University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education received approval for recruitment for Fall 2017-18. FACULTY SPOTLIGHT Prof Cameron Campbell was selected as a Changjiang Scholar by the Ministry of Education. As part of the Changjiang scheme, Prof Campbell was appointed a Visiting Distinguished Professor at Central China Normal University. Prof Jenny Smith received a prestigious Carnegie Fellowship for 2017-2019. Over one-third of academics in the Division of Social Science were cited, quoted, or interviewed by local, regional, and international media outlets over the past year. Media include ABC News, ALLAFRICA , Bloomberg, Channel NewsAsia, China Daily, Dutch Financial Daily, The Economist, LA Times, Lianhe Ribao, Ming Pao, New York Times, South China Morning Post, Time Magazine, RTHK, Xingdao Ribao, Voice of America, The Wall Street Journal, World Peace Forum, among others. Global China Studies On-line Curriculum showcases the School’s world-class research strength in the following areas: CREATIVE VISION The Division of Humanities held successful conferences over the year on modern and contemporary Chinese literature, empires and religions, and literature and philosophy, attracting Mainland China and international academics to participate. The Division also joined with the Library and the Center for Education Innovation in sponsoring the University’s First Red Bird Student Film Festival in May 2017. In its seventh season, the annual Intimacy of Creativity, the pioneering international music workshop series founded and led by Artistic Director Prof Bright Sheng, YK Pao Distinguished Visiting Professor of Cultural Studies, organized the World Premiere Concert featuring the critically acclaimed New York Festival of Song at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center in March 2017.
