41 BOOSTING CAMPUS DEVELOPMENT Implementation of the Campus Master Plan made good progress in 2016-17, with tenders for various buildings prepared. Construction of the Indoor Sports Center and enhancement of the University’s waterfront commenced, with the projects expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2018. On the residential front, 2016-17 saw the opening of the HKUST Jockey Club Hall at Tseung Kwan O as a hostel for undergraduates, the completion of a major renovation of postgraduate accommodation in Towers A and B on campus and significant progress made on the construction of a new 500 beds postgraduate hostel supported by the donation from the Hong Kong Jockey Club. The University successfully sought funding from the UGC’s Additions Alterations and Improvements Program to assist with certain campus facility upgrades. Such work encompasses expansion and renovation of catering facilities, expansion and renovation of the data center, upgrading and expansion of specialist research facilities as well as refurbishment of departmental office facilities. Modernization of other facilities is also continuing. This includes student residences, staff residences, extensive areas of the Academic Building and the facilities within it.
