34 HKUST 2016-2017 Annual Report BUILDING KNOWLEDGE The School of Business and Management shared its knowledge and expertise through public presentations by faculty members. The School also invited well-known local and global leaders to deliver talks on topical issues to classes or in open seminars. Such occasions not only enriched the student learning experience, but also forged closer connections with the business community. In 2016, Prof Sir Christopher Pissarides, winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Economics and the first Nobel Laureate to join the HKUST faculty, delivered a talk on the impact of Brexit. HKUST participated in an “Evening Forum” in September 2016 to exchange views and insights on Hong Kong’s innovation and technology development with the aim of engaging young students and the public in science and technology. The forum was held as part of “InnoTech Expo 2016”, a large scale innovation and technology event organized by Our Hong Kong Foundation with support from the Ministry of Science and Technology. Public lectures on a range of subjects were presented by Division of Humanities faculty in partnership with the Hong Kong Museum of History throughout the year. Donors provided generous support for new infrastructure, professorships, research, scholarships, and other programs.
