In 2012-13, local higher education underwent a transformational
system change while emphasis on connectivity and international
presence grew within the sector globally. As the Annual Report of
the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology shows, HKUST
has met these challenges with characteristic insight and vigor,
enabling the University to advance further toward its vision to be a
leading university with significant international impact and strong
local commitment.
HKUST’s 22nd year coincided with a Hong Kong education
milestone – the launch of the four-year undergraduate degree
system under the sweeping 334 reform initiative, and the arrival of
the accompanying double cohort on higher education campuses
across the city. There had been much debate as to how institutions
would cope. However, there was a remarkably smooth transition at
HKUST.
For this, grateful thanks are due to the University’s dedicated faculty
members and administrators for their forethought, innovation and
commitment. HKUST not only met the challenge of this exciting
but demanding change but turned it into an opportunity to deliver
a new and pioneering education experience that will keep the
