NURTURING NEXT-GENERATION INNOVATORS
In collaboration with the Women Faculty Association, HKUST
launched the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) program
for young women who aspire to be scientists or engineers. The
first WISE Summer Camp took place in July 2012, bringing 96 senior
secondary school students to campus to gain greater insight into
science and technology.
The School of Science Education Development Program continued
to promote activity-based teaching in science and mathematics
through courses, workshops and summer camps for primary school
students to arouse early interest in science and mathematics. In
2012-13, the program served over 1,500 primary school students,
with 144 science undergraduates as instructors and teaching-
content developers. The Center for the Development of the Gifted
and Talented under the School offered specialized academic and
enrichment programs in mathematics and science to nurture
secondary school students with potential in science, including a
university credit-bearing “HKUST Dual Program” for outstanding
secondary students.
On campus and off, the University
continued to serve the community
through the sharing of expertise
and enthusiasm, with Schools
adding their presence through
numerous knowledge-building
activities in their respective fields.
The University’s leading work
in education and research also
generated generous donations
to support initiatives for
development while bonds with
alumni strengthened
