UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION
Successful Transition
In September 2012, the University welcomed
two incoming classes of undergraduates – the
final cohort of the three-year degree and the first
cohort of the new four-year degree – totaling
more than 4,000 students. Careful planning,
good preparation and hard work by faculty,
staff and senior students acting as mentors
made it possible to smoothly handle the step-
up in numbers and the delivery of two Year One
undergraduate programs.
HKUST saw a smooth start to the double cohort
and a growing array of opportunities for students
to explore wider avenues of learning in 2012-13.
These included newminors, more advising support
and enrichment for undergraduates, greater
internationalization of the postgraduate intake,
and preparations for a joint school with Xi’an
